Hello everyone! Happy Monday!
The past two weeks have been nothing short of whirlwind - in the best way! We are officially THREE WEEKS away from our wedding weekend! Everything is coming together and moving quickly! Our friends hosted the sweetest “love is in the air” themed couples shower for us last weekend! There was a martini bar, beautiful florals, incredible food, and the most fun conversations! It was fabulous and such a great night! A group of our dearest family and friends traveled to celebrate with us and getting to catch up with them was such a treat for us all!
Last week, we drove up to Highlands, North Carolina to get our marriage license and bury our bottle of bourbon! Southern tradition says that if you bury a bottle of bourbon one month before your wedding day it will keep rain away. Let’s pray it works!
I’ve been feeling under the weather the past few days (again!) so a lot of soups were in our dinner rotation this past week. Here’s to getting better and marking off the 100 things on our to-do list. We are starting to feel the pressure of time, and apparently so is my immune system.
For Valentine’s Day we kept up our tradition (third year in a row) of making homemade pasta and having a romantic dinner at home. Our kitchen table is currently covered in wedding items so I set up a fun tablescape for two at our kitchen island and we made fettuccine Alfredo, steaks, and broccoli! It was so nice to spend a slow evening together cooking at home. We both said afterwards that we really needed it.
reading, writing, watching
I am still listening to Atomic Habits on audiobooks - review to come!
I have also started back with The Frozen River, so far I am really enjoying it!
I loved the Wall Street Journal’s profile on Harrison Ford. Shrinking is one of our favorite shows at the moment so this felt very relevant.
I also enjoyed this piece on embracing “slow viewing.” Why are we all trying to watch the popular thing when everyone else is, and why do we feel rushed to do it? When you actually think about it, it’s actually quite silly.
We just finished season 2 of Shrinking. This show made me laugh/cry/be angry/feel all the things. I recommend for everyone!
We watched Love at First Sight and La Dolce Villa on Netflix, and I thought they were both so cute! Two perfect love month movies, and the Italian villa in La Dolce Villa had us wanting to move to Italy ASAP. So much unexpected design inspo in a Netflix movie!
We watched The Gorge. It’s new on AppleTV with Miles Teller and Anna Taylor-Joy. It was pretty good! At some points the plot felt kind of weird, but we liked the ending!
We also watched Erin Brockovich on Netflix! How did it take us this long to see it! We loved it. Julia Roberts truly does no wrong!
cooking, eating, baking
We tried a new restaurant in Highlands, NC named Highlands Supper Club and had a really wonderful time! The vibes were like sexy mountain cabin-esque, which was perfect for a date night! We both got the elk tenderloin. It was one of the best elk dishes I’ve ever had. I also enjoyed their bacon washed old fashioned which was even garnished with a piece of bacon! They also had matchbooks which of course gives any restaurant added flair, in my opinion.
I am DYING to try Alison Roman’s caramelized shallot pasta.
As I mentioned before, we had a lot of soups this week. My parents brought over some of my Dad’s gumbo and his chicken tortilla soup. Both are SO good. I wish I could link the recipes, but my dad is notorious for just making things based on his extensive cooking knowledge and never uses recipes. I’ve recently thought it would be fun to do a cooking with Gene (my dad) series on here. He isn’t a professionally trained chef, but he might as well be! Everything he makes we are obsessed with!
We got an immersion blender off of our wedding registry so Dylan was excited to make broccoli cheddar soup. He sort of combined a bunch of recipes to make his own and left some whole broccoli florets and chunkier mirepoix in there for texture. It was so great! Panera, who?
Sunday evening we used our leftover steak from Valentine’s Day to make steak tacos and they just really hit the spot. Charred corn tortillas, fresh avocado, cilantro, red onion and cojita cheese - the perfect combo!
shopping, buying, trying
I ordered these socks from Amazon after seeing them on Sabrina Chazen and love them! Such a cute touch to an outfit! Love that it gives Polo vibes but the price doesn’t.
We are going on a safari-moon in Kenya after our wedding, and I am trying out all the air dry hair products because we can each only bring 40 pounds of luggage for two weeks. Obviously, my outfits are more important than a hair dryer. I think I might do an entire note on this because the results have been pretty interesting. So far, I have tried this one from Prose and the viral Crown Affair mousse. Any other recommendations for air dry styling for curly/frizzy/wavy hair? I am all ears!
Ya’ll know how much I LOVE my high waisted wide leg trouser jeans from J.Crew. Well, I saw they just released in this shade and had to purchase. They are on the way to me, and I cannot wait to try!
And lastly, I have a new nail color for you to add to your rotation, Red Hot Rio by OPI! The perfect bright red! I am loving this one at the moment!
Have a great week! Until next time! xo Liz
